Henry Joseph Meinert, III, 62, passed away on July 11, 2013 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1951 in Kansas City, Kansas. Joe was a member of UAW Local 31 and employed by General Motors Fairfax for 37 years. He worked in various departments on the 2nd and 3rd shirt. He was currently working the 3rd shift in Final Repair.
Joe was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served in the 82nd Airborne Unit Paratrooper Division. Joe enjoyed hunting, especially duck hunting. Fishing was another past time of his. One of his most cherished memories was a fishing trip to Alaska with his Father. Vegetable gardening and harvesting were another of his passions. There will be many who will miss having his special salsa; made not by recipe but taste! Joe loved to cook and was proud of his smoked meats. He enjoyed doing carpentry projects and loved designing his own projects. He was very good with his hands and loved to help people with their projects. His favorite time of the year was Christmas. Joe would start right after Halloween gathering all his decorations for inside and outside. He was especially proud of his Christmas Village display. Joe did not let grass grow under his feet.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Henry Joseph Meinert, Jr., his mother Joyce Jean Meinert, and grandparents.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Tina and her daughter, Lindsey; his son, Brian Joseph; daughter, Kelly (Mike) Lewis; 2 grandchildren; brother, Jerry Meinert (Robin); sister, Jeannie Sigler (Tim); nephews, Quinn Sigler, Timothy James (T.J.) Sigler, and Myron Sigler; nieces, Lisa (Rob) Hughes, Alexandra Meinert, and Kaitlin Meinert; uncles, Don Hartig and Jack Hartig; aunts; Jo Donna Blackburn and Mary Frances Lechliter .
