Jim Rogers, of Overland Park, KS, born May 30, 1943 passed in peace on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the age of 73. Jim was an incredibly charismatic man of great integrity and character - loving Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Grandfather, the role he was the most proud. Jim was the oldest child of Herbert James and Opal Rogers and spent the majority of his childhood in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Jim attended William and Mary College and is a veteran of the United States Navy. He was proudly accepted into the exclusive Nuclear Engineering program, serving 7 years on a Diesel submarine. His time spent in the Navy provided a foundation for how he chose to live his life, always saying that “I am one of the lucky ones who received far more than I gave, and even in harm’s way, I felt no fear, I was young, felt bullet-proof, as I thought all of it was just fun and exciting.” It was also during this time that he met the love of his life, his wife Marjorie Ann, who together built a beautiful life and family.
After his time in the Navy, Jim built a career in high-level executive sales with Unisys Corp. and later Sprint Corp. Jim was a mentor to many young salesmen during his career and felt a personal obligation throughout his life to help those who sought his guidance; often inspiring them to change the trajectory of their own path with the confidence he so passionately exuded. During Jim's career he was also commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, as awarded by the governor of Kentucky. Throughout his life, Jim was an avid lover of golf and long-time member of Brookridge and Deer Creek County Club, even once achieving the coveted hole-in-one.
Jim was a man of great faith and his family was his greatest achievement and source of pride. He is survived and will forever be missed by his wife of many years Marjorie Ann Rogers of the home; his son Jason B. Rogers and his wife Christy of Overland Park, KS; his daughter Tiffany Gotis and her husband Jason of Philadelphia, PA.; his 4 grandchildren, Lillian Summerhill Rogers, Kayden Benjamin Rogers, Ellington Beatrice Gotis and Perrie Arabella Gotis, all of whom he adored and made no apologies for spoiling rotten; three sisters Pam, Mary Alice, and Ramona, and one brother David, all of Ft. Smith Arkansas; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and the rest of his relatives and friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Herbert James Rogers Sr. and Opal Sue Rogers (Opal Sue McLemore) of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
