H. JOAN (JONI) BARTOLICH
March 24, 1935-Jan. 13, 2011

Hildred Joan Bartolich, Overland Park, KS, known as Joni to the many she loved, the many that loved her and the many she touched passed away Jan. 13, 2011 at the age of 75.

Joni was born March 24, 1935 in New Castle, PA. As a young girl, her love for animals blossomed. She cherished her horses, Cherokee and Sugar. Throughout her life, she had various cats and dogs, all unconditionally loved, but, perhaps, none more special to her than her beloved Inky. Her little black Shih Tzu, “Inky Dinky Doo,” brought her such joy and kept her company for so many years.

Joni’s journey in life took her through many turns and vocations. She was most proud of her 10-plus years in residential property management. Her hallmark was filling vacancies and keeping them at capacity. No one did it better, and in 1996, she was named her company’s Property Manager of the Year.

Joni’s had many talents. She resurrected her passion for drawing and painting during her last year living at Overland Park Nursing and Rehab. She cherished her private room, where she savored Chai Tea Latte’s on Sundays, knitting scarves for friends and family, sketching, and painting beautiful sun-catchers and oils of animals. So many of her creations adorned her room that one granddaughter lovingly referred to it as “Hobby Lobby.” For as many as she kept, she gave even more away to family, friends and the kind staff at the nursing home. When she wasn’t creating, she brought smiles daily to everyone with her wonderful, off the wall, sense of humor.

But Joni’s true calling was as a mother and grandmother. Through good times and hard times, no one did more and fought harder for her children. She leaves behind a son, Kurt, Prairie Village, KS, a daughter, Stacy, Westwood, KS, and four grandchildren, Kelsey, Sydney, Alexandria and Zachary who knew her as Grandma Joni or MeMe. Her son, Matthew, preceded her in death in 2009.

She also will be missed by the three sisters she cherished: Marilou Tebay of Pensacola, FL, Nancy Hertfelder of Broomfield, CO, and Susan Neunzer of Venson, AZ.

Now Joni is eternally with God, and her mother and father, Maude and Robert Sadler. For all the friends and kind, wonderful people that helped Joni through the years, the family is truly grateful.

A private memorial for Joni is being held Monday, January 17, 2011 at Christ Church Anglican in Overland Park, KS.
