Graveside services for Hortense Alice Marie Sanders, 95, Lawrence, will be Saturday morning at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, Ill. Ms. Sanders died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
She was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Los Angeles, the daughter of Otto August and Anna Albers Sanders. She grew up in Eureka. Ms. Sanders earned an associate's degree in business from St. John Lutheran School in Winfield in 1932 and a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Kansas University in 1938. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Kan. She was a volunteer at her church and Truman Medical Center. Ms. Sanders was a senior accountant for Trans World Airlines for more than 50 years. She also worked for H&R Block in Kansas City, Mo. She moved to Lawrence in 2004.
Survivors include a niece, Mary Nichols, Lawrence; a nephew, Howard Pankratz, Denver; a great-nephew, Chris Nichols; and a great-niece, Robyn Nichols.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, at D.W. Newcomer's Johnson County Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorials to the Heart of American Hospice, sent in care of the funeral chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210.
