Mr. Howard Spainhour

Howard F. Spainhour, age 96 passed away peacefully in his Lenexa home on March 12, 2010.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 17 at the Old Mission United Methodist Church Chapel, Shawnee Mission Parkway and Mission Road, with a private burial service Wednesday afternoon at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation with family and friends will be at 10:00 a.m. preceding the service.

Howard was born May 6, 1913 in Hutchinson, Ks. After graduation from Kansas State University in 1935, Howard worked for the Kansas Power & Light Company, the Army Corps of Engineers, and then went to work for Black and Veatch, where he rose through the ranks to become a partner in the firm. Professional organization memberships included Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and Missouri Society of Professional Engineers. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Missouri, Kansas, and other states and served as project engineer and later as project manager for numerous projects during his 35 year career with Black and Veatch.

Survivors include daughter, Marilyn Taylor and her husband Bill, son, Paul Spainhour, grandson, Jeffrey Taylor and his wife Jane, great-grandson, Ben Taylor and nephew, Mark Richardson and his wife Susan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Irma Lyle, his granddaughter Megan Taylor, and his sister Helen Richardson.

Howard was a member of Old Mission United Methodist Church for over 50 years and demonstrated his caring servant spirit by his generous support of the church, American Red Cross and Salvation Army. He was a loving husband and father, a caring friend and a true gentleman who will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the deep personal commitment of his caregivers, Jean, Ruth, Theresa, Margaret, Sharon, and Wendy. They lovingly cared for his every need, lifted his spirits, and extended his life. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Old Mission United Methodist Church, American Red Cross, or Salvation Army.
