Hugh Robert Owens, 79, Overland Park, Kan., passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at home.
He was born on Dec. 21, 1928, in Lake Crystal, Minn. He graduated from Redwood Falls High School in Minnesota. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. Beginning in 1954, he served for two years as a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He attended the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University in Chicago where he earned a Master's degree in hospital administration. He worked for Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Wash. In 1965, he began working for the Social Security Administration. He later worked for the Health Care Financing Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General. He retired in 1999.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Joan, of 52 years; daughter, Anne Owens of Washington, D.C.; and son, Daniel Owens of Overland Park.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, in Garden City, Minn. Memorials are suggested to the City Union Mission.
