Iraj Hakim-Abdollahi (78) of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on January 14th at his home surrounded by his family.
Iraj was born March 25th 1936 in Tehran, Iran to Mehri Niksima and Fathollah Hakim-Abdollahi. After graduating high school in Tehran and working for the Airline industry for a couple of years, Iraj began the adventure of a lifetime. In 1959, he left everyone and everything he knew to attend college in America. Iraj graduated from the University of Wichita and married the love of his life, Ruth Anne Turner, in 1962. During their 52 year marriage, Iraj and Ruth melded the best of their respective cultures and beliefs as they reared a daughter and son while moving from Kansas to Tehran and back.
Iraj was a meticulous cost accountant and gifted businessman who achieved success on both sides of the Atlantic. He was blessed with the gift of gab and loved spending time conversing and laughing with family and friends. Iraj was an avid amateur photographer and, chronicled the life of his family (sometimes to their chagrin) for five decades.
At the age of 48, Iraj began his 30 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and the many other illnesses which followed. Refusing to give in, through sheer force of will, he remained ambulatory and out of a wheelchair until the last few years of his life. His family will always remember his courage and unflagging spirit as well as the fiercely protective love he had for them.
Iraj was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kamran Hakim-Abdollahi. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (Turner) Hakim-Abdollahi, his sister, Mahin Hakim-Abdollahi (Mahmood), his daughter, Dianna Hakim-O’Grady (Brian), his son Christopher Darius Hakim-Abdollahi (Michele) and his grandchildren: Shannon Nixon and Ryan Hakim-Abdollahi.
