Iris Carol Goheen Dyer

December 30, 1949 — January 1, 2011

Iris Carol Goheen Dyer went to her rest on Saturday, January 1, 2011 after a long illness. She was born December 30, 1949 in Beloit, Kansas to Delwin Goheen and Donna (Hofer) Goheen.

Iris moved to the Kansas City area in the late 1970’s where she worked at KU Medical Center as a secretary in the general medicine clinic. Iris met her future husband Tom while working a part time job at Mission Bowl snack bar.

Iris was very strong in her Christian faith and was an active member at Full Faith Church of Love in Shawnee and became a founding member of FFC sister church, Cornerstone Community Church in Kansas City, Kansas.

Iris’ positive attitude was infectious and whatever volunteer function she was working on the family could count on being involved in as well. She shared this giving attitude with her three grandchildren, taking them with her and showing them the value of giving to others.

Iris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tom and brother Curtis.

She is survived by Tom’s children; daughter, Dana Dyer, Shawnee, son T.R. Dyer and wife Laura of Copperas Cove, TX and adopted son Kenny Waterman, Jr. of Holton, KS. Brothers Don, Downs, KS, Craig (Mary Dohr), Springfield, VA, Brad (Marilyn) Beloit, Ks, sister in law Cathy Goheen, Las Vegas, NV.

Grandchildren Rachel Dyer, Lawrence, Ks, Jacob and Molly Dyer of Copperas Cove, TX. Nieces, Gina Crosby (Tommy), Carly Goheen, Debbie Kilzington (Ken), nephews Chris (Lauri), Steven and Craig, II (Kelly); One great niece and three great nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, January 6, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will be held the evening prior from 6-8 P.M., also in the chapel. Interment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
