Mr. J. Heinz

July 6, 1925 — February 16, 2016


Dean was born on July, 6, 1925 in Cameron, Mo.  to Carl and Leslie Heinz. He lived in several small towns in Northeast Mo. settling in Hamilton, Mo where he graduated high school, and then attended Chillicothe Business College.  Dean worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1985.
He was married to Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Reed for 54 years who preceded him in death in 2004.  They had four children, Terry (Gretchen) Springfield Mo., Janet Heinz, Springfield Mo., Jewel Neher, KC MO, Suzi Ponchur (Mark) Leawood, Ks. Eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren.
He was a Mason at the Old Mission Lodge 153 . He was also a Greeter for Abdallah Shrine Temple.  He was a volunteer for ALS, and a member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.
He and Libby shared a passion for travel, visiting Europe, Asia, Australia, China, Central America, and all 50 states.  His children and his grandchildren were his life.  He was a very active grandfather, always trying to attend their sporting events.  He loved music, all kinds, Big Band, Jazz, Pop, and was quite the dancer in his younger years. One of his biggest thrills was dancing with all his granddaughters at their weddings.  He made it to all but one...his youngest ..Emily, his "Lil Bit" as he called her. He was a sports enthusiast, always cheering on his beloved KC Royals, Chiefs, and Kansas Jayhawks.

He will be remembered as a very kind, loving, devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather (Papa) great grandfather, friend, loved by all, with a strong warm bear hug, a very firm handshake, and a passion for anything sweet.
Service will begin at 1pm at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave, Overland Park, KS.
