Jack Spangler

October 5, 1922 — July 19, 2008

Jack Spangler, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, departed this earthly life to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, MO. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, never letting his illness diminish his strong faith in God. Jack was born at his home on October 5, 1922 to parents William Henry Spangler and Cornelius (Wood) Spangler (both deceased). He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Linda Spangler; two sons, Scott Spangler of Kansas City, MO and Matthew Spangler and his wife, Nancy, of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Todd Spangler of Washington, D.C., Ian Spangler of Florida, and Clifford, Emily, and Kaylee Spangler all of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Mabel Witt of Depew, OK; two brothers, Jess Spangler of Depew, OK, and Wayne Spangler of Tulsa, OK; one sister-in-law, Betty Spangler of Harrisonville, MO. In addition, he leaves behind many other family members and friends. Jack was preceded in death by one son, Jack Stephen Spangler, two sisters, Lois Haskins and Eva Neeley; two brothers, Leonard and Earl Spangler. As a young man, Jack was raised in Milfay, OK and served in the United States Army from March 1942 to 1946 where he achieved the rank of Permanent Staff Sergeant. His tour of duty included active ground combat during World War II; he was honorably discharged in 1946 with several special medals and awards. Jack and his wife Linda have been members of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Harrisonville, MO for 14 years.

Visitation will be held 10:00 ? 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 22nd at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2400 East Mechanic Street, Harrisonville, MO followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Jack?s name be made to Crossroads Hospice, 9237 Ward Parkway, Suite 300, Kansas City, MO 64114.
