Jack Lynn Van Lear, 80 passed away Friday, December 21, 2007.

Jack was born 31 January, 1927 in Parkersburg, West Virginia. He retired from the United States Army Reserves in 1987 as a Colonel after 35 years of service. Jack served in the US Marines from 1945 to 1949 and later in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division as a Ranger, as well as in the Special Forces. Jack was formerly active in international sales for Precise Forms and Wall Ties Inc., two Kansas City companies in the aluminum concrete forms industry.

Jack is survived by his wife Betty of 57 years of the home in Lenexa. Also surviving are two children, Jack L. Van Lear Jr. and his wife Kristi of Kansas City, Missouri and Tamara L. (Van Lear) Roberts and her husband Dean of Yorkville, Illinois as well as six grandchildren, Nathan Roberts, Jason Roberts, Rebekah Roberts, Jack L. Van Lear III, Brooke Van Lear and Jess Van Lear.

Jack enjoyed his travels to many countries and all the continents of the world through his military and business careers. He highly valued the many relationships of mutual respect gained through his various staff and command assignments during his military career. He treasured his children and grandchildren, evenings of storytelling on the patio, and family gatherings in his home surrounded with artifacts from his world travels. He will be much missed by his family, friends, and most of all by his wife and lifetime best friend ?Betty Lou?.

The family requests no flowers but that contributions be made to the charity of your choice. Memorial services will be held Friday December 28, 2007 at 1:00pm at Newcomer and Sons chapel, 112th and Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas.
