James Aaron Brooks, 91, of Overland Park, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2014, after his battle with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by his family, friends and angels.
Visitation will be from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday, November 10, 2014, at the Overland Park Church of Christ, 13400 W. 119th St. Funeral services will follow the visitation on Monday, November 10, at 1:30 pm, also at the church. Interment will follow in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Jim was born at home on February 24, 1923. He was the son of Fred and Effie Mae Brooks. He graduated high school in 1941, then enlisted in the Air Force. He started his military career as a Private in WWII and ended his 15 years as a Major after the Korean Conflict.
His loving wife, Lanie Brooks, passed in 2010 after 65 years of marriage. They were blessed with three children, son James Mark Brooks of College Station, Texas, (Cindy), daughter Rebecca Lynn Sharp of Fulshear, Texas, and son Jeffrey Dean Brooks of Bucyrus, KS, (Sandy); six grandchildren, Chris Sharp, Julie Hall (Tom), Jimmy Brooks (Patricia), Andy Brooks (Jackie), Daniel Brooks (Megan) and Taylor Penrod (Jimmy); 5 great grandchildren and many loving friends. He was a charter member of the Overland Park Church of Christ, were he served the Lord for 65 years. He worked beside his wife in their family business, Brooks Electronics, Inc., for 40 years.
He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather and friend. His family, friends, and church were the top priorities in his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and experienced his hugs.
