James Richard Campbell, Jr, Olathe, KS, 58, passed away June 25, 2016 at his beloved home at the Lake of the Ozarks. He was born June 11, 1958 in Kansas City, KS, the son of James and Barbara (Morris) Campbell.
Jim graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1976. Shortly after graduation Jim began his career in the auto dealer industry, ultimately working as Parts Manager for Shawnee Mission Ford for the last 28 years. This was more to him than just a job. He referred to his co-workers and customers as friends and took pride in receiving many recognitions by Ford Motor Company for his accomplishments.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Richard, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 31 years Michelle, mother, Barbara Campbell, Roeland Park, KS, son, James Campbell III, Kansas City, MO, daughter Nina Campbell, Overland Park, KS, brothers, Greg Campbell and Scott Campbell and sister, Ann Weber. He is also survived by in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, and eleven adoring nieces and nephews. Countless others considered him family, as he did them, even though they weren’t related by blood or law.
“Big Jim” was one-of-a-kind and larger than life. No one who met him ever forgot him. He could often be found at the center of a group, entertaining everyone with his stories. He was quick-witted and known for his funny quips which became known as “Campbellisms.” He touched the lives of many with his smile and trademark sense of humor. He loved sports and was a proud supporter of the Chiefs, Royals and KU. He also loved tailgating, boating, traveling, the Lake of the Ozarks, listening to music, Budweiser and most of all his wife, children and family. Jim loved people and they loved him. Many thought of him as a second parent or big brother. He left this world far too early and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 11:30, Saturday, July 2 at Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe, Leawood followed by a tailgate party at 1:30 PM at Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Guests are encouraged to wear Chiefs, Royals or KU attire.
The family requests memorial contributions to the Veterans Administration in lieu of flowers.
