James Cook

April 11, 1928 — December 28, 2011

Jim died on December 28 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Jim retired as an Outside Plant Engineer from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in May of 1990 after 40 years of employment. He was a member of Prairie Baptist Church since 1953 where he taught Sunday School for over 40 years and held the office of Chairman for both the Diaconate Board and Church Growth Committee. He served as Church Moderator and participated on several other boards and committees. Jim was an active member of the Chancel Choir since 1954. Jim was known for his dry wit, strength of character, and solid dependability. He enjoyed music, drawing, and writing poetry as well as car racing of any type.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy. They were married for 58 years. Survivors include his daughter, Jamie, and son-in -law, J. Alan Myers, Edwardsville, KS; and stepbrother, David Ocamb, Phoenix, AZ. The family suggests contributions to the Prairie Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 3, 11:00 a.m., at Prairie Baptist Church, 7416 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, KS. 66208.
