Mr. James Cummins

James W. Cummins, 69, of Vassar, Kan., passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. June 5, at Vassar United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Children Hospitals or a charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Cummins was born Nov. 6, 1940, in Washington, Pa. He was the son of Charles W. "Bill" and Mabel (Huggins) Cummins. He spent his childhood in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a past member of Abdullah Shrine of Overland Park, Kan., present member of Arab Shrine Temple of Topeka, Kan., Masonic East Lodge #504 of Fairview Heights, Ill., and a member of Vassar United Methodist Church. He had owned Cummins Insurance Agency of Overland Park and was co-owner of Pebley Floral Company of Kansas City. He retired from Mid America Modern Home Sales in Topeka, Kan. Survivors include his wife, Carol of Vassar; two sons, James W. Cummins Jr. and wife Angela of Edgerton, Kan., and Charles Cummins and wife Jamie of New Martinsville, WV; a daughter, Inda Taylor and husband Ed of Huger, SC; a step-son, Kent Kilgore of Olathe, Kan.; a step-daughter, Roxanne Kilgore of Vassar; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
