James M. DeCourcy, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 24, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to James and Diane DeCourcy. He moved to Mission, Kansas in 1958. James served in the U.S. Air Force and was a proud UAW, Local 31 member and employee of GM Fairfax for 32 1/2 years. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed rod and custom cars, fishing, a loyal Chiefs fan, and a loving and devoted patriarch of the family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandmother, aunt, two uncles and one nephew. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Janice DeCourcy; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Suzie DeCourcy; son and daughterin-law, Tim and Kim DeCourcy; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Jason Steele; seven grandchildren, Jimmy, Sonny, Erin, and Logan DeCourcy; Jordan, Jonah, and Kassidy Steele. He is also survived by his brothers Terry and Brian DeCourcy; sister, Pat DeCourcy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al and Helen Rogers.
James touched the lives of many and will be truly missed. He was a gentleman and a scholar.
A celebration of James's life will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2nd at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.
