James William Green, Jr. was born January 23, 1938, in Wichita, Kan. His family moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he attended Border Star and Southwest High School. He graduated from Missouri University with a business degree. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. After college, Jim took over the L.E. Fox Company, a small wagon jobber company. In 1961 he purchased the Equipment Company, an automotive warehouse established in 1911. In 1980 Jim developed a new concept in the marketing program. He created Automotive Parts Associate (APA), which won him an achievement award for innovation in the automotive industry. Carquest bought the Equipment Company in 1996 and Jim retired to the Lake of the Ozarks. Jim was an avid golfer. He knew no strangers and was a kind and genuine man.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Sue Green, of 42 years; children James William Green III and wife Kathleen of San Diego, Calif., and Alyson Elizabeth Deck and husband Bobby of Springfield, Mo.; sister Alberta Patricia Green of San Diego, Calif., and four grandchildren, Jessica, Benjamin, Michael, and Joseph. Jim fought a long and courageous battle with lung disease and his life ended April 9, 2009.
Because he would want his passing to be a celebration rather than a mournful time, his family invites you to his memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan.
