James D. Hobdy “Blue” age 87 of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on February 11, 2015, at Olathe Hospice House.
A celebration of his life will be at 2PM, Tuesday, February 17th, 2015 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1PM, also in the chapel. Entombment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens Courtyard of Memories mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Olathe Medical Center Charitable Foundation, 20375 West 151st Street, Suite 363, Olathe, KS 66061. Jim was born to Davis and Lydia Hobdy on December 31, 1927 in Alvord, TX. After high school he joined the Merchant Marines in 1945. He then moved to Cushing, OK where he met and married Lahoma Marie Harmon in 1951. In 1966 they moved to Overland Park, KS where Jim worked for Certain-Teed Fiberglass as a production foreman until he retired in the early 1990’s. His favorite hobbies included, golfing, fishing, boating, camping with his family and attending many activities of his grandchildren. He also loved watching old western movies, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas Jayhawks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lahoma Hobdy and his parents, Davis Hobdy, Lydia Ellis and his stepmother Lucy Hobdy.
Survivors include his five children, Paula Benavidez of Chula Vista, CA; James E. Hobdy of Overland Park, KS; Michelle Dunn and husband Doug of Overland Park, KS; Theresa Segraves and husband Steve of Overland Park, KS; Denise Sax and husband Duane of Shawnee, KS; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
