James Holland, 89, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014.
He was born on November 12, 1924 to John and Olga (Dahlberg) in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up and attended schools in Minneapolis. James was an All-Star basketball player in high school.
In 1943 he served in the United States Army. He was highly decorated receiving multiple medals including, The French Legion of Honor, for landing in Normandy Beach, The Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts
On October 10, 1945 he married Lois Smyth.
He worked for General Motors for nearly 30 years, during that time they transferred all over the United States. He retired in 1977.
James was the President of the Brookridge Country Club.
He was an avid golfer; earning the title of Brookridge Country Club golf champion. He was a big sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing cards.
James was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lois Holland of 68 years, parents, three brothers, Ken, Don and Russ Holland and one sister, Francis Geurtz
He is survived by two sons, Jerry (Cheryl) Holland and Jim (Pam) Holland; two daughters, Marcia (Stan) Lybarger and Barbara Holland; one sister, Dorothy Heidbrink two brothers; Wally Holland and Dick Holland; five grandchildren, Jeff, Jennifer, Stacy, Brooke and Amanda and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Burial will follow at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
