James Jackson

d. March 12, 2012

James Edward Jackson, 88, passed away peacefully at Aberdeen Village on March 12, 2012. He was born June 11, 1923, in Plainfield, IN, to Fay and Mildred Jackson as the second of three children. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School 1941 and attended Purdue University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana State while serving in the Army.

Jim met Mary Ellen Shirley in high school and their romance developed through the war years before they were married in 1946 at the end of WWII. Jim was a US Army veteran, a member of "the greatest generation" and served in the European theatre through VE Day.

Jim enjoyed a 40 year career at Corn Products, starting in Argo IL. Promotions took the family to England and several cities in IL and KS. Jim was an integral part of Corn Products' leadership team in rebuilding operations in Europe, plant management in North Kansas City, and worked to build and transfer innovative technologies among European, US, and South American entities for the balance of his career. Jim and Mary Ellen eventually retired in Overland Park and enjoyed church life at Grace Covenant Presbyterian. Jim was a mentor, example to us all, steward, coach, devoted spouse, and excellent parent, ever prepared and selflessly planning ahead.

Jim & Mary Ellen's loving marriage of 63+ years resulted in 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Jim and Mary Ellen nourished and supported one another with a steadfast and deep love, with Jim surviving Mary Ellen by two years. Their proudest accomplishment was preparing five children for successful relationships and strong growing families. He taught us by example to live a full life, keeping the correct perspective on priorities and what is truly important and lasting. We celebrate his life and that he and Mary Ellen can be united once again.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 11100 College Blvd, Overland Park, KS 66210.
