James Loren “Jim” Cook, Kansas City, Missouri passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 14, 2009 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Courtyard of Memories. A visitation will begin an hour prior to service times at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribution to Disabled American Veterans, 9025 Pflumm, Lenexa, KS 66215.
Jim was born April 10, 1927 in St. Charles, Missouri to Roy and Ester Belle Cook. He was the 6th of 9 children. He moved to the Kansas City area when he was 6. He was a veteran of World War II, joining 3 of his older brothers in the Navy.
He was married 63 years to his childhood sweetheart, Dorris Mae Garrett, who survives him. He is also survived by his children; Steven J. Cook and wife, Ellen and Gregory L. Cook and wife, Martha; grandchildren, Heather J. Ohler and husband, Dean, Jennifer L. Ramsey and husband, Gary, James G. Cook, and John T. Cook; great grandchildren, Samantha L. Ramsey, Joshua J. Ramsey, Steven J. Ramsey, Angel M. Cook, Gregory L. Cook, and Jamie D. Ohler; plus a multitude of nieces and nephews as well as numerous “adopted” children and grandchildren.
