JAMES S. (JIM) GOODING
James S. (Jim) Gooding, 89, of Lakeview Village, formerly of Fairway, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Jim was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on September 16, 1921, and graduated from Wyandotte High School. He joined and served with the 5th Army Air Corps during WWII in the Pacific. Jim worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 41 years. He was a member and elder of Southminster Presbyterian Church. Jim served as Worshipful Master of the Old Mission Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed traveling with the Overland Park Trailblazers and he did taxes as a volunteer for AARP.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Betty Westfall Gooding; brother, Ray E. Gooding; and sisters, Mildred A. Garnier and Genevieve L. Brown.
Survivors include his sister, Helen M. Starry; son, James S. Gooding II and his wife Jean; daughters, Linda R. Hudson and her husband, Bob, Janet C. Deines and her husband Garry, and Martha J. Black and her husband Phil; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren survived their Grandpa Jim.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association or your favorite charity.
