James Warren King, age 77, passed away from stomach cancer on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at his home in Overland Park.
Mr. King was born in Helena, Arkansas on January 18th, 1930. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1954, and later became a registered professional engineer. He began working at Bailey Meter Co. but was soon drafted into the Army, serving two years working on the Nike missile project on the White Sands Range in NM. Mr. King then continued working at Bailey Meter Co. until 1961, when he joined Black and Veatch, where he worked until he retired in 1995, specializing in control systems for large industrial facilities. Mr. King was a devotee of the arts, and often contributed time and money to support local arts organizations. He was a member of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church.
He is survived by his life partner of 35 years, Robert D. Ramsey, of Overland Park; his former wife, Nancy W. King, of Seattle, WA; his children, Lawrence King, of Brooklyn, NY; Catherine E. King of Valencia, Spain; Terrell S. King and Christopher M. King, both of Seattle, and his two grandchildren Mira Elisa Brouwer and Alden C. Brouwer of Valencia, Spain.
Jim King will be remembered for his loving care for those around him.
Memorial services will be 1:00 PM July 18th at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Kansas City, Mo. In lieu of flowers, his family requests contributions to the Heartland Men?s Chorus, PO Box 32374, Kansas City, MO 64171 www.hmckc.org. Contributions may be made at the memorial service.
