Dr. James Willard Lloyd, 63, Shawnee, KS died January 21, 2008 at home from complications of renal cell carcinoma. Dr. Lloyd was born March 23, 1944 in Concordia, KS, the son of Reverend Willard and Luella (Garlow) Lloyd. Jim proudly served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam War. He then completed his medical degree from KU and practiced family medicine in Concordia, KS and Lenexa, KS. He always remained a "small town doc" even after moving to the "big city". Jim enjoyed fellowship with his patients, his family and his friends. Whether it was praying at the bedside of a patient or singing and directing choirs, he made ministry an important part of his life. He had a great passion for the outdoors and loved to travel by boat, plane, motorcycle, bicycle, canoe or foot. He saw his illness as a very humbling experience and lived everyday of the past five years as if it were his last.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda (Hildebrandt) Lloyd and his father, Rev. Willard Lloyd. He is survived by his wife, Lynette (Brane) Lloyd, sons, Gabriel and Tyler and daughter Eve Kalkman and husband Tim, grandchildren Leann and Reid, his mother, Luella Lloyd, sisters and brother Willene Knorr and husband Ed, Shelley Terrill and husband Jerry, David Lloyd and wife Vivian, Ruth Casady and husband Brian. Jim is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, dear friends and patients all of whom also cared deeply for Jim and will also greatly miss him.
A Service of Remembrance will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26 at Community Covenant Church, 15700 W. 87th Parkway, Lenexa. Private interment with military honors will take place at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday, January 25 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS.
