Jim Mahoney, age 92, passed peacefully January 11, 2023 with his family present.
Family will receive friends at Johnson County Funeral Chapel on Friday, Feb. 17th, 9 to 10 a.m., Memorial Service will follow at 10 a.m. Inurnment and Military Honors will follow immediately in Johnson County Memorial Gardens
A life-long Kansas City area resident, he was born September 23, 1930 to Alice & John Mahoney. Growing up he served as an Altar Boy & attended two different high schools. Jim served his country as a Private First Class/Musical Arranger. He valued education and was a Teacher, Principal and School Administrator, having acquired a BS & MS in Education.
Jim & Margaret (Maggie) Jane Quinley were married 64 years and they met at a dance at Rockaway Beach.
Never a man to be idle, Jim started working at age 10 & retired at age 83. With the encouragement of daughter, Marcie & grandson, Joshua, he wrote his memoirs, "One of My Odd Jobs". His last job was a greeter & driver at this funeral home.
An active community member, he participated in The Model A Ford Club, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Abdallah Shrine Oriental Band and American Legion.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie in 2022, daughter, Jamie in 2006, sisters, Kathleen Duggan & Jane Carney and brother, William Mahoney.
Survivors include daughter, Marcie Mahoney, former son-in-law, Martin Brauner, grandson, Joshua Brauner & wife, Jessica, & great granddaughter, Jaina.
Jim and Maggie … dancing just a while ago at The Elks in 2019. Jim handled his wife’s passing gracefully ... asking so tenderly if he could kiss her funeral display picture at her service on June 25, 2022.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Elks #26 and sent in care of Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210.
