James Harold Papst, 91, of Overland Park, KS, passed away September 11, 2011, following a series of strokes. Services will be held Thursday, September 15, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, with a visitation at 9:30 am and service following at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Point Baptist Church, 10415 Chestnut Drive Kansas City, MO 64137 or Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Jim was born August 14, 1920 and grew up in the Louisburg, KS area. He lived in the Kansas City area most of his adult life. He was a veteran of the Pacific Theater of World War II. Following the war, he became a typewriter repairman, becoming eventually co-owner of Overland Office Supply and Mission Office Equipment.
Jim was very active in his church, Sertoma International, the National Office Products Association and other charitable organizations.
Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Courtney. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Overland Park, a sister, Louise Maschler of Louisburg, a brother, Bill Courtney of Grain Valley, MO, two daughters: Roxanne Andregg (Glenn) and Linda Eshelbrenner (Albert). He is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
