James “Jim” F. Reed, 75, of Overland Park, KS, passed away May 12, 2011. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011, at 11:30 A.M., at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, 66210. A visitation will be held an hour prior.
Jim was born July 17, 1935 in Kansas City, KS. Jim began an apprenticeship as a painter at Theodore Lawrence Painting Co. Jim was employed by Theodore Lawrence Co. for 22 years. In the 1980’s Jim formed the J.F. Reed Painting Co., the company was dissolved in the early year of 2000. Jim continued to paint, but as a sole proprietor until the time of his passing. Jim was a strong Christian, and originally was a member of Stony Point Christian Church in Kansas City, KS.
Jim is survived by his wife, Roberta J. Reed; children, Brenda Bradshaw, Renee (Eddie) Plesa, John Henry (Sherri) Reed, John Walter (Laurie) Reed, James (Laurie) Reed Jr.; niece, Margaret (Steve) Martin; 3 step-children, Richard Leat, Kathryn White, Robert (Elena) Leat; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to St. Luke’s Heart Institute, Kansas City, MO., or the American Cancer Society.
