James Smith

James L. Smith was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the age of 79. He was born in Dodge City, KS, the son of Herbert and Lillian Smith.
He is a graduate of Kansas State University and an alumnus of Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity, Zeta Chapter. He was the Director of Housing Management for HUD.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Johnson and Martha Ann Grom.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three children, Brian (Kim) Smith, Heather (Scott) Walton and Brenda (Bob) Webb; three step-children, Ty (II Yo) Calderwood, Todd (Mary) Calderwood and Troy (Kim) Calderwood; 12 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 5601 W. 62nd Street, Mission, KS 66202 or Manhattan Alumni Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity, 1318 S. Marymount Road, Salina, KS 67401.
