Colonel Snyder died in Wichita, KS February 13, 2014.
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 16, 1937. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1954 and attended Missouri University for one year then transferred to Kansas State University and graduated from there in 1959 and was commissioned into the Air Force at that time. He later received his MBA degree from Kansas University. He married Patricia Jo Schnelle, from Mahaska, Kansas on June 28, 1959. There followed a 30 year career in the Air Force. He was a master navigator with over 600 hours spent flying in Vietnam. There were assignments with his family in Thailand, Germany and many locations across the Southeast US. There had been 20 moves before retirement in 1989.
He spent many hours after retirement working tirelessly for military organizations. He belonged to AFA, MOAA, MOWW, VVA, VFW, American Legion, DAV and People to People.
He is survived by his spouse, Patricia, sons, Richard (Dawn) Snyder, David (Lora) Snyder and daughter, Deborah (Zachary) Balentine, nine grandchildren and also sisters Jeanne Van Meter and Joyce Snyder. His family will sorely miss him.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S Market St, Wichita, Kansas or the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons – Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
