James "Jim" Hurd

February 8, 1957 — April 9, 2016

Jim Hurd, 59, Louisburg, Kansas passed away April 9th, 2016. Jim was born on February 8th, 1957 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was a 1975 graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School where he was active in track, swimming and football (1974 state champions). The greatest joys in Jim's life were his family and friends, barbecuing for others, cruising to Alaska with Cheryl, hunting, fishing, camping with his sons, piloting small planes and soaring thru the sky, watching movies at the Midway Drive-in movie theatre, riding on his John Deere lawn mower and eating popcorn with grandsons, Camren and Carter while watching football games. Thru the years Jim became very proficient in the maintenance field after completing many hours of training while attending Tech Schools and Community College. Jim is survived by his wife, Cheryl of 37 years, son, Jeff of Alabama, father-in-law & mother-in-law, Leland and Barbara Spencer of Overland Park, sister, Jan (John) Loser of Gardner, brother, John (Leigh) Hurd of Ohio, brother-in-law, Ron (Sarah) Spencer of Lenexa, sister-in-law, Penny Spencer of Gravois Mills, Heather of Ottawa, Camren and Carter Hurd of Olathe, many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was proceeded in death by his son, Clint, parents, Joe and Joan Hurd, brother-in-law, David Spencer, grandparents, uncles and aunts.

Jim brought much joy and laughter to everyone he met and his family and friends will miss him dearly. Cheryl & Jeff would like to thank all of his family, Farmland friends, Dietrich buddies, Louisburg USD 416 staff and the many friends and neighbors who meant so much to him.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Tebo Cemetery fund.
