Jan Michael Freeman

Jan Michael Freeman, 80, Overland Park, passed away February 25, 2023.  Jan was born in Tipton, Indiana to John and Mary (Orr) Freeman.   He graduated from Jefferson Township High School in Kemptom, Indiana where he was the Senior class president and voted “Most Likely to Succeed”.   After high school he attended Purdue University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Engineering.  He worked at Western Electric and retired from Lucent Technologies.  

Jan was a Navy Veteran, serving for 4 years.  He enjoyed playing golf, sail boating, watching sports, snow skiing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

Jan was preceded in death by his parents; two children: Stacy Lynn Freeman and Bradford Nickerson; brother, Jerry Freeman and former wife, Ellen Rowan-Webb.   He is survived by his wife, Patricia Freeman; Children:  Keith and Tobi Freeman, Andrew Nickerson, David and Hilary Nickerson; siblings: Johnny and Heidi Freeman, Dave and Joan O’Malley, Kenneth Freeman and Charlene Freeman (Sister-in-law); five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A small, personalized family Celebration of Life is being scheduled for those closest to him, as Jan was never the type to have all the attention on him.   In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made in his name through the ASPCA for his love of animals and through the Alzheimer’s Foundation to find a cure.
