Jane Wallis

Jane Evelyn Wallis, 77, of Overland Park, KS, died Thursday.
She was born to Wesley and Agnes Willett on May 1, 1935, in Joplin, MO. She grew up in Greenfield, MO. Jane graduated from high school as Valedictorian and went on to obtain an education degree from the University of Missouri in 1957. After graduating from college, Jane married Ron Wallis, who preceded her in death.

Jane began her teaching career in Moberly, MO, where she taught second grade. She then went on to teach first grade at Ridgeway in Columbia, MO, and later at Kirkwood Elementary.

In 1962, Jane left her teaching career upon having her first son, John Wallis. Six years later, Jane had her second son, Michael Wallis. Upon raising her two boys, she returned to teaching, first at the Jewish Community Center, and then later at St. Elizabeth's. In 1990, she began teaching first grade at Grant Elementary School in Kansas City, KS. She later transferred to M.E. Pearson. She retired from teaching in 2000.

Jane is survived by John and Sarah Wallis of Overland Park, KS, and Michael and Sherry Wallis of Prairie Village, KS. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Adam Gibson, Andrea Gibson, Taylor Harris and Jennifer Wallis.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS. Services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 2 pm also at the Johnson County Chapel. Interment will follow at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
