Janet was born August 12, 1922 in St. Paul, MN. From her childhood, she was very active in church activities in St. Paul, and held a deep and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. After high school and business school, she was employed by Prudential Insurance Co. She was one of only two females to be selected to travel the US setting up and organizing branch back-office systems and procedures. It was on one of these trips in 1954 that she met the love of her life, Clark. They were married in 1955 in St. Paul. Janet then took up the role of wife and mother. She was totally devoted to her husband and her four sons, imparting love, caring and wisdom. After Clark retired from JC Penney’s, they loved traveling to meet their many retired friends at JC Penney functions and spending time with family on wonderful Florida vacations.
In 1977, Clark and Janet began second careers by founding Ferrel's Hallmark Shops at Ward Parkway Shopping Center where Janet found new joy in caring for her many friends, customers and associates. Janet’s love of quality and caring for people set the tone for a business that endures to this day. She was loved by all for her gracious demeanor and caring attitude towards her customers, associates and friends. Her beautiful smile could light up a room and bring joy to everyone she met.
Janet is survived by her four sons, Kevin and wife Christine, Mark and his wife Michelle, Tim, Wynn and his wife Sharon. She leaves nine grandchildren; Blake and wife Anne, Mandy and her husband James, Brad, Matt, Melanie, Andrew, Brett and his wife Michelle, Kimberly, Ashley; and three great-grandchildren, Corin, Quinton and Landon.
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the many caregivers, nurses and physicians at St. Luke’s Hospital who gave her such loving and compassionate care. “Thank you” for taking such great care of our Mom in her last days with us. We’ll never forget your kindness.
