Janice Proper Koupal passed away on March 19, 2014 at Kingswood Health Center.
Janice was born in Kansas City, MO on October 15, 1929 to Iris and Frank Proper.
She attended Border Star Elementary School, Southwest High School and graduated from Sunset Hill School in 1946.
She attended Stanford University and graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Kansas in 1950.
She was employed at Union Carbide in Kansas City until her marriage to Howard R. Koupal on June 6, 1953.
They lived in Lincoln, NE for a short time before returning to the Kansas City area living in Prairie Village, Leawood and moving to Kingswood Senior Living Community in 2011.
Jan always loved being a part of her children's activities including Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA- President of the Corinth District PTA to name a few. She loved entertaining family and friends and was hostess to many Shawnee Mission East Band and Thespian parties.
Jan was a lifetime member and volunteer at the Toy and Miniature Museum, a member of the Friends of Art and volunteer at the Nelson-Atkins Museum and donated her time and talents to numerous other community organizations.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and son, Mark.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, daughters Karen Koupal, Prairie Village, KS; Lynne O'Connell and her husband Mark, Leawood, KS; Julie Koupal, Kansas City, KS; and son Jay Koupal and wife Susan, Columbus, OH. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Caroline, Stephanie, Kevin, Holly, Sean, Ryan, Kerry, Evan and Nathan, and one great-grandchild, Nicholas.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated caregivers of both Kingswood Health Center and Grace Hospice for their loving support during these last weeks and months.
A celebration of Jan's life will take place March 25, 2014 at 1:00p.m., Kingswood, 10000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO.
