Janice C. McKeehan, 66, passed away peacefully at her home on January 21, 2014. Janice was loved by her friends and family and was a talented artist and psychologist. A 1965 graduate of Southeast High School, Janice resided in the Kansas City area her entire life and had made Overland Park her home the last 20 years. Janice earned her Bachelors degree in Commercial Art and Education from Central Missouri State University in 1969 and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She pursued a career in commercial art, including work at BMA, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and as an art director at The Independent magazine. Later in life, Janice fulfilled her dream of becoming a psychologist, earning her Masters in Psychology from Central Missouri State University in 1990 and earning her Doctorate in Psychology from Kansas State University in 1992. Janice owned her own private psychology and counseling practice for 15 years, most recently with an office near Red Bridge and Holmes in south Kansas City. Janice enjoyed painting, cooking, traveling, shopping at Stein Mart and hosting friends at her lovely home. Janice had a unique sense of fashion appreciated by many and an incredible knack for coordinating and putting together outfits. Janice was a proud member of Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Mission, Kansas. She was predeceased by her father, Eugene Pohle and her mother, Frances Pohle. She is survived by her son, Grant, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and her best friend and partner, Doug McDonald, of Kansas City, Missouri.
A memorial service will be held in Janice's honor on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at 6:00 pm at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 6630 Nall Avenue, Mission, Kansas 66202. A private burial will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas 66210.
