Jason Pi

November 23, 1956 — September 11, 2017

Jason Yung Pi age 60, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away on 9/11/2017, at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Jason was born on 11/23/1956, in Taegu, South Korea, to Lien Hua Cheng and Si In Pi.

Jason was a successful businessman. Whatever he had set his mind on, he went after wholeheartedly. At a very young age, he wanted a pair of expensive alligator boots and delivered papers every morning until he earned enough money to buy them for himself. As a young adult in Korea, he dreamed of coming to America to run restaurants and after training in the art of culinary in Taiwan, he did just that. In Missouri he met his wife, Vicky Pi, in the restaurant they both worked at where he was a chef and she was a waitress. Together they got married, moved to San Francisco, and then ultimately back to Kansas City where they opened a number of restaurants together. Though he first opened restaurants to fulfill his American Dream, after his two daughters, Angie Pi and Jennica Pi, were born, everything he did was for them. Jason loved his family very much and fought his cancer with all his might so that he could make sure his family would be alright before making his peaceful departure from earth.

Jason is survived by his wife, Vicky Pi; two daughters, Angie Pi, Jennica Pi; mother, Lien Hua Cheng; and four sisters, Jenny Law, Seunghee Hong, Heejung Hong, and Hyunjoo Hong.
He was preceded in death by his father, Si In Pi; and his brother, Ted Pi.

A memorial visitation to celebrate and remember his life will be held from 6-8 on Monday, Sept. 18, at Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. In lieu of flowers, the family asks family and friends to make a donation to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center at Research Medical Center where Jason was treated with great care these past four years.
