James D. “JD” Heitman, 68, of Leawood, KS, passed away on June 16, 2016. JD was born March 4, 1948, in
Camden, NJ. He is survived by his wife, Connie Heitman, of the home and his sister, Nancy Cahill of Barrington, NJ.
JD never met a stranger and was known for his quick smile, engaging sense of humor, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand. His outgoing nature extended to animals as well as people. He had numerous pet dogs throughout his life and even maintained a standing account with a local veterinarian to care for the many strays he rescued. He was also deeply patriotic, having proudly served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. In short, his life was marked by service in many forms.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 20, at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS. A reception will follow immediately.
