Jean Dunn Kascsak age 85, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2016, at Kansas City Hospice House, surrounded by family.
Jean was born November 3, 1930 in New Jersey, to Mary and John Dunn. She was the youngest of four children. After finishing secretarial school, Jean went to work in the office at her father’s Ford dealership in Bloomfield, New Jersey. She continued to work there after her marriage to Albert Kascsak in April of 1953, until the birth of her first child, Debbie in 1954. Jean supported her husband in his career, moving to Florida, Oklahoma, California and Kansas. Son, Tim, was born in Tulsa and Jill in Kansas City. She took pride in being a wonderful mother, wife, and homemaker. Jean was a fabulous cook and often opened her home to friends and family for her famous dinners, especially her homemade Italian meatballs and spaghetti.
As her children grew older, Jean went back to work in the resource room at Shawnee Mission East High School and in the office at the original Blue Valley Middle School. She finished her secretarial career at Blue Valley’s district office.
Jean enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. The highlight of her travels was a trip to Ireland with her daughters to honor her Irish heritage. You could always catch her bragging about all of her grandchildren and was delighted each fall when KU basketball season began anew. Jean was always decked out in crimson and blue for “her” Jayhawks.
The family expresses sincere thanks to the caregivers at Villa Ventura’s assisted living community for their care over the last 6 months. A special thanks to the many amazing “angels” at KC Hospice House. They provided Jean with love, comfort, tenderness, and professional care as she completed her life journey.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Al, and her son, Tim.
Jean is survived by daughters, Debbie (Steve) and Jill (Dan) and grandchildren Erin and Lindsey Kascsak, Megan (Alex) Hawman, and Spencer and Connor Hurst. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy as well as her only great-grandchild, Devin Kascsak-Hoaglin.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 on Wednesday, January 27th at The Church of the Ascension located at 9510 W. 127th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66213.
