Jean Scatterday Scott
Jean Scatterday Scott, 83, of Leawood, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning, May 11, 2017, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Born July 2, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a graduate of Worthington High School. She attended Ohio State University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. While at Ohio State, she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Jean taught school in Columbus, worked in the insurance industry, and was the director of the Shawnee Mission Medical Group.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Scatterday, Columbus, OH., and stepson, Tom Scott of Wharton, NJ. She is survived by her husband Jim Scott of Leawood, KS, a sister, Jane Eckleberry of Naples, FL, three children, Steven Black (Wendie) of Marysville, OH, Julie Wellner (Dennis) of Leawood, KS and Michael Black (Lisa) of Lee’s Summit, MO, and her step-daughter, Teri Elmont (Alan) of Culver City, CA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Chris Black, Emily and Jack Wellner, and Jacob, Ashlyn and Megan Black, three step grandchildren, Chani, Lee and Monika Elmont, and one great grandchild, Brinley Black.
Services are Thursday, May 18 in Worthington, Ohio. Visitation will be at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High St., at 12:30. Graveside service will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, 5561 Milton Ave., at 2:00.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
