Jean Smith

October 6, 1920 — October 29, 2016

Jean Egbert Smith, 96, of Mission Hills, Kansas passed away on
Saturday, October. 29th. She is now reunited with her loving husband
Chandler and her beloved dog Annabelle. A family Memorial Celebration
will be held at a later date.
Jean was born on October 6, 1920 in Kansas City, Missouri to Asa and
Josephine Egbert. She attended Border Star Elementary School,
Southwest High School and graduated from the University of Kansas where
she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was prior member of the
Kansas City Country Club, the River Club, and the Junior League of
Kansas City, Missouri. She also served on many PTA committees. She
was a founding member of several senior animal welfare programs in
Kansas City, most recently SNAP (Safety Net Assistance Program) at KC
Pet Project.
Jean is survived by her three daughters Barbara Ross, Starr Wagstaff
(Tom) and Janet Curran (Pat); nine grandchildren, Chandler Ross
(Michelle), John Ross (Asako Matsuura), Tom Wagstaff (Carrie), Janie
Wagstaff (Gail Gumminger), Aimee Wagstaff (Elizabeth Temple),
Josephine Sinclair (Bill), Betty Jean Curran, Wiley Curran (Caroline) and
Olivia Curran; fourteen great-grandchildren, twenty-seven grand-dogs and
a fifty- five year old Gardenia Tree.
Jean approached each day with joy in her heart. She treasured every
moment shared with her family. Throughout her life, she was always
stylishly dressed including wearing her signature silk scarf looped around
her neck. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and caregivers.
The family gives special thanks to Saint Luke’s Hospice Home Heath
Care and Visiting Angels.
