Jean Westerman

Jean Louise Kaufmann Westerman, age 88, passed away in El Dorado, KS on January 6, 2013. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park, KS with services at 11:30 am on Friday, January 11, 2013 also at the Johnson County Chapel, interment to follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Westerman was born on July 5, 1924 in Leavenworth, KS. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and earned academic recognition through membership in Phi Beta Kappa. Following graduation she worked as a Spanish-English translator at J.A. Folger & Co. While working at Folger's she met Bernard Westerman, a coffee broker who serviced the Folger's account. They were married in 1949 and settled in Prairie Village where they had three children. In 1966 she returned to work and spent 20 years in the business office of the Shawnee Mission School District. Jean loved being with her family, was proud to be a charter member of the Village Presbyterian Church, was very passionate about her Kansas Jayhawks and was an avid basketball fan, enjoyed family trips to Estes Park, CO, had a soft spot in her heart for dogs and spent many hours walking and tending to her garden.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Bernard C. Westerman and her son John David Westerman. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Dave Stoskopf of El Dorado, KS, son and daughter-in-law Jim and Karla Westerman of Simi Valley, CA, two grandsons Matt Stoskopf of Milford, OH and Adam Stoskopf of Omaha, NE and one granddaughter, Julia Westerman of Simi Valley, CA.
