Jeanne Brock Bunn, age 87, Prairie village, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Bunn was born July 27, 1921 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and grew up in Salina, Kansas. While living in Salina, she met Stuart; and this last February, they celebrated 65 years of a wonderful marriage. Jeanne and Stuart raised their family in Prairie Village where they were founding members of the Village Presbyterian Church.
Jeanne graduated from the University of Kansas in 1943 with a degree in Art. She had a love and a talent for both painting and photography, and once won a New York Times award for photography. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and remained an active alumna for many years. She was also very proud of her American heritage and was actively involved with the DAR, Colonial Dames, Dames of the Court of Honor, Daughters of American Colonists, and the Jamestown Society.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clifford E. Brock and Iva V. Kendall Brock. Survivors include her husband, Stuart E. Bunn; sons, James (Nancy), and Steven; daughter, Jennifer Weddle (Daniel); grandchildren, Jonathan Bunn, Stevnray Hardy, Jesse Weddle (Amy Jo), Amy Weddle, Anna Weddle; and a great-grandson, Malachi Martin. She is also survived by her nieces, Linda Bunn and Marcia Trotter (David), and her nephew, G. Peter Bunn, III (Kathy); as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, on Wednesday, April 8, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of her life at 10:30 a.m., with a private burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Children’s Mercy Hospital, where Jeanne volunteered for many years, or to St. Luke’s Hospice.
