November 11, 1954 — April 5, 2015

Jeffrey Dean Brooks, of Bucyrus, KS passed away at home on April 5th, 2015, after a brief battle with lung cancer. He went to meet the Lord surrounded by friends, family, and angels.

Jeff’s visitation will be Friday, April 10th from 6-8 p.m. at the Overland Park Church of Christ, 13400 W. 119th St. Funeral services will be held at Overland Park Church of Christ as well, the next day. Services are Saturday the 11th at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be immediately following at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

Jeff was born in Kansas City, MO on November 11th, 1954 to James (Jim) and Lorraine (Lanie) Brooks. Jeff graduated from Shawnee Mission South high school and went on to receive his degree in business from the University of Kansas. Shortly after college he started The People Book in Lawrence, KS, which evolved into Brooks Publishing. He built College Coupons from this business, which grew to service over 50 college campuses across the US for more than 30 years.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father Jim (2014) and mother Lanie (2010). His wife and partner, Sandy Brooks of Bucyrus, KS survives him. Jeff and Sandy would have celebrated their twenty-ninth wedding anniversary in May. Jeff is also survived by his only child, daughter Taylor (Brooks) Penrod and her husband Jimmy Penrod of Olathe, KS. Additionally, Jeff is survived by his brother Jim Brooks (Cindy) of College Station, TX, his sister Becky Sharp of Katy, TX and many more loving family members and friends.

Jeff was born into and grew up in Overland Park Church of Christ where he attended faithfully until his death. He served the congregation quietly in many ways throughout his years. Jeff was an avid photographer, builder, and family man. Some of his personal successes include becoming a fashion photographer for JC Penny, photographing for a Kansas City Chiefs coffee table book that was published in 1991, as well as designing and contracting his family’s home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Overland Park Church of Christ in care of Kingdom Builders Ministry (KBM). This is a ministry designed to further God’s Kingdom in Jamaica.  It was near and dear to Jeff’s heart.
