Jerald Selk

February 6, 1952 — November 6, 2019

Jerald “Jerry” Selk, 67, passed away Wednesday, November 6th, 2019 in Overland Park, Kansas. Jerry was born February 6th, 1952 to Howard and Ellen (Greene) Selk in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was one of four children, and a natural-born leader. He moved to Overland Park when was 13 years old, graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1970 and then went on to get his MBA from Lindenwood University. He spent much of his adult life in Saint Louis, MO.

Dubbed by friends and family as a “mover and a shaker”, Jerry lived life to the fullest, traveled the world, and excelled in his career thanks to his charisma and “computer-like” brain. He was an accomplished sales manager for more than 20 years in the Industrial Adhesives industry— working for companies such as Henkel Adhesives— before starting his own company in 2011, Gateway Adhesives. Jerry was easy to spot cruising down Lake Saint Louis Blvd with his “GLU GUY” license plate. Always one to keep busy, when he wasn’t working Jerry enjoyed hunting with his trusty dog Dugan, fishing, eating exotic foods, boating, bicycling, spending time down in the Ozarks, and building rockets with his son. He loved going on cruises and shared stories about his travels to favorite places including Alaska, Hawaii, and Germany. His favorite show was Two and a Half Men— the Charlie Sheen version, of course. Favorite movies included Dirty Harry, Tombstone and Stripes. He was always the life of the party and had a specialty in cracking jokes even at the most inappropriate times. He loved the holidays and big family get-togethers, had a great sense of humor and a very kind heart. He always put others before himself and especially loved his family and always took advantage of an opportunity to remind them how proud he was of them.

He is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Paul) Feder of St.Louis, MO, son Justin (Andrea) Selk of O’Fallon, MO and, 5 grandchildren, Brianna Openlander, Asher and Ellen Selk, and Knox and London Feder. Other survivors include 3 siblings, twin-sister Janet Selk of Overland Park, KS; brother Greg Selk of De Soto, KS; and sister, Lisa (Steve) Deeds of Sedalia, CO.
