Jerry C. Roy, 63, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away July 16, 2012, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Jerry was born July 9, 1949. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1971 with a B.S. in history, and he earned a M.A. in history in 1974 from Utah State University in Logan with specialization in Asian history.
Jerry began his 37-year career with the Johnson County Library as a paraprofessional information specialist in 1974. Jerry also did some free-lance writing for local newspapers, including the Kansas City Star, on subjects relating to local history. He enjoyed reading (primarily history, biological sciences, poetry, philosophy, mysteries, and science fiction), cooking and finding interesting restaurants.
In 2008, Jerry was proud to be named recipient of the 2008 Robert Ross Muscular Dystrophy Association's Personal Achievement Award for MDA, Kansas City. This national awards program recognizes the accomplishments and community service of people with disabilities caused by neuromuscular diseases.
