Jetta Gilchrist

Jetta Lee Gilchrist, 82, of Overland Park, KS., passed away peacefully on June 12, 2008, surrounded by family and friends.

Jetta was born to Charles and Emma Burchett on December 18, 1925. Jetta is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Dean K. Gilchrist, her parents, and her sister Thelma. Jetta is survived by her two sons; Rick and wife Mary Lee of Olathe, KS., Rod and wife Teresa of Prairie Village, KS., her 4 grand children, Jason, Chelsea, Jaclyn, and Jacob, 3 step granddaughters Laci, Hannah, and Caitlin. She is also survived by her brother Marvin Burchett and wife from Antioch, CA and her sister Delores Wilson and husband Jim from Bartlesville, OK.

Her memory will be cherished by all including her nieces, nephews and many dear friends and loved ones. Her gentle and kind spirit will always be remembered by those who?s lives she has touched. Jetta grew up in Bartlesville, OK but raised their family in Overland Park, KS. She was actively involved in the Women?s Choral, Ushered for Jo Co Community College, the Red Hat club, as was a school volunteer. She was also an eloquent and accomplished ballroom dancer for Arthur Murray Studios. Jetta was an avid music enthusiasts who?s hobbies included playing the piano. She was a stay at home mother for 16 years and volunteered to be a part of all of the boy?s events. She and Dean honeymooned at Grand Lake in Oklahoma. After the boys were grown they began vacationing there again sharing their passion for the area and creating endless family memories. Her compassion and joy for life will always precede her memory.

A visitation will be held at D. W. Newcomer?s at 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday June 18, 2008. A short Memorial Service will be conducted from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Immediately following will be an informal gathering with the directions provided at the service. Her family wishes to hold a private burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions in her honor to Kansas City Hospice House at 9221 Ward Parkway Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114-9808.
