Jim D. Lewis, 63, of Olathe, KS, went to be with his Lord on March 5, 2007 doing one of the many things he loved-riding his Harley.
Jim was born April 4, 1946 in Kansas City and was a proud resident and staunch booster of the area all his life. He met the love of his life, Cliftene Hedrick, while attending Old Mission Jr. High and they were married on March 1, 1963. Together, they raised three wonderful and devoted children and successfully restarted a fourth generation business, American Fire Sprinkler Corp. Jim valued and loved all the employees and knew how important they were in American Fire's success. Jim tirelessly advocated the fire protection industry and the necessity of fire protection to save lives and property. He was a member of the Nat'l Fire Protection Assn. (NFPA), a Principal Member of the Subterranean Spaces Committee for the NFPA, member of the Nat'l Fire Sprinkler Assn., past president and current member of the Fire Sprinkler Assn. of Kansas City and for many years Jim was an active member of the Fire Protection Contractors Development Corporation and was highly regarded by his peers within this industry group.
Jesus Christ was Jim's Lord and Savior and the center of his life. He was very active in Mission Road Bible Church, played an important role in the major restoration, and truly loved every single parishioner. He especially cherished his relationship with Pastor Rod and wife Faith Goertzen, all the Prime Timers, and the time he and Clif spent with the Children's Church. Jim was a founding member of the K-Life Ministries. He was also active and dedicated to the Doulos Ministries and served on their Board for 25 years. The primary mission of Doulos is to "disciple, train and place Christian servant-leaders to disciple youth and families" by placing young adults in their program's classrooms to learn how to be effective servants and ministry leaders.
He was preceded in death by parents, Gelder and Marge Lewis, and Clif's parents, Dale and Annette Hedrick. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Cliftene, of the home, daughter Robin Luff and her husband Kevin of Boulder, CO, son James and his wife Jen of Overland Park and daughter Michelle of Overland Park. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kiefer, MaKenzie, Kerrick, Aiden, Ellison and Emmerie.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8, from 6-8 p.m. at Mission Road Bible Church, 7820 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at the Church on Friday, March 9, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road.
