Mr. Jim Roberts Summers, Jr.

Jim (James) Roberts Summers, Jr, 54 of Overland Park, KS died Sunday, September 19 in the Kansas City Hospice House after a 2.5 year battle with Lung Cancer with his wife Carrie by his side.

He was born January 8, 1956 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, he was the son of the late James R Summers, Sr and Betty Lou Wagner Summers Furbush who survives. He was the youngest of 4 siblings. On February 24, 1990 he married Carrie A. Campshure Summers.

Jim had been a resident of Johnson County since 2002. In 1996 after serving 22 years in the U.S. Navy he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He spent 6 years working and racing for ASSC in Lake Bluff, IL. the past 8 years he has been the Motor Sports Director at ATI Procharger in Lenexa, KS.

Over the years Jim has had many hobbies. A few of which were drag racing, boat racing and cycling. All of which he had many accomplishments. Jim also enjoyed helping others with the tuning of their various vehicles.

He is survived by one son James R Summers, III of Overland Park, KS; three daughters Jocelynn M Summers of Spring Grove, IL, Amanda C Drew of Westminster, CO, Jamie R Olsen of Hight Point, FL; two son-in-laws Peter Drew and Cliff Olsen; four granddaughters Summer and Piper Drew, Courtney Wooten and Jenna Olsen. One brother, three sisters, father and mother-in-law three brother-in-laws and two sister-in-laws.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 10:00 am at D.W. Newcomers Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Jim was not one to dress up, so we don’t think anyone attending should. A nice shirt or t-shirt and a pair of jeans is appropriate. Lunch for family and friends to follow.
