Joan Faye Hires ascended to heaven on the beautiful moonlit night of November 24, 2009. She leaves her loving husband of 57 years, Jack, her daughter Deborah and husband Larry Bridges, her son Roger and wife Terry, her granddaughter Nichol ("Colie"), grandson Chase and granddaughter Nakia and husband David Joutras. She also leaves her siblings, Darlene and Bill Carey, Joyce and Wayne Cole, Carol and Jim Whitehurst, and brothers Dean Stiles, Rolla Carnine, & Donnie Stiles. Joan was born in Dodge City, Kansas and grew up in Salem, Oregon. She met Jack in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was married in 1952. Her greatest joys were Jack, her children, her grandchildren, and her sisters and brothers. Joan was a gifted interior designer. A room decorated by Joan was, in short, perfect because her standards were perfection. She felt that the only way to complete a task was to complete it right. A woman with a keen mind for numbers, Joan was an accomplished bridge player, which she played both socially and competitively. She was a humble person, always directing attention away from herself. Her joy was providing the setting from which her family could flourish. A walk on the beach at Marco Island, Florida with her family was a supreme pleasure. Joan was preceded by her sisters Madine and Maxine, and her brothers Darwin, Dorwin and Dickie. Joan is in our hearts forever. While we will miss her greatly, we will continue to draw inspiration from our memories of her. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Harvesters Community Food Network, 3801 Topping Ave. Kansas City, MO 64129 or the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Resource Development, 1275 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30309-3506. A memorial service for Joan will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 2:30 p.m., at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. The family will receive friends and guests at 2 p.m. Arr.: D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 913.451.1860.
