Joan (Jody) Hise Fayman, 86, Lenexa, KS passed away August 18, 2011. A visitation will be from 4-6 PM, Thursday, August 25, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. A private family graveside service will take place the following day in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Jody was born May 3, 1925 in Kansas City, MO to Carl Myron Hise and Margaret Alice (Montague) Hise. She graduated from Prairie Grade School and Shawnee Mission Rural High School, class of 1943, and continued her education at Monticello Girls Jr. College and the University of Kansas where she was a member of Sigma Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta. She lived most of her life in Johnson County, KS but also resided in La Jolla, CA, Santa Barbara, CA, and Lawrence, KS. She moved to Lakeview Village in 2004 where she was active in many volunteer programs. She was a docent at the Toy and Miniature Museum. She also volunteered at Shawnee Mission Medical Center for 25 years, earning a 6,500 hour service award. Jody was a member of the Village Presbyterian Church, the Lakeview Chapel, and a life member of the KU Alumni Association. She was preceded in death by her parents. Her loving survivors include her daughters, Karen Fayman Leiker of Spring, TX, and Janet Fayman Kernes of Shawnee, KS; son-in-law, Bruce Kernes; brother, Harlan M. Hise of Prairie Village, KS; and grandchildren, Jason Leiker, Kelley Kernes, and Lauren Kernes Park. Although the sense of loss for all who knew her is immeasurable, we are blessed for the time we were given with her, grateful for the joy she brought to all our lives, and know she will always be watching over us.
